Control Command rejected by the device. CM: maxtrack=0

Post by markgamrat » Tue Sep 24, 2019 10:12 pm

I installed the software (driver) as documented on a Windows 10 system. However, I continually get "Control Command rejected by the device" and "CM: maxtrack=0". I have tried two different 5.25 drives with the same result. I have read the forum and didn't find anything else to try that I haven't tried already. Does anyone have any suggestions to fix this - I'm dead in the water.

Unfortunately that is a very vague error message and can mean anything from the KF card not being recognized, to the drive simply failing to seek track zero.

Is there any drive activity at all when you try to access the drive?

Have you tried a different floppy cable? Using a twisted cable? Checked floppy jumpers? Made sure pin 1 really matches pin one on the KF and drive? What are the status lights on the KF doing? What does the device manager report about the KF device?

I've tried two drives, two different cables and multiple floppies with the same result. It appears that the drive is working and spinning.

What's about the LEDs on the KF-board? Are they flashing or glowing constantly?

The red light on the board is on. And depending upon the various things I'm trying - the green and yellow lights are on.

Did you check that the jumpers for drive selectection are properly set? Do you have a twisted part in the drives cable?

A while ago I saw a case where the same happened with a Macbook setup running Win 10. The setup had previously worked, then it didn't work, and later started working again. The cause remained a mystery...

Yes, I confirmed the jumpers are correct. I tried another ribbon cable. I confirmed no twisted parts or cables. No change.

How do you supply power to the drive? Are the 5V and 12V (if you use a 5,25" drive or a very old 3,5" drive) okay?

I have two external power supplies. I was using them to power up older IDE drives to pull data off. I've tried both of them on the 5.25 drive. The drive powers, spins, light goes on ... all indications are the drive is working fine. I think the kryoflux is bad as I have tried two of everything except for the kryoflux.
