Commodore 1571 track offset in double-sided mode?

Post by auron » Sat Feb 16, 2019 3:07 pm

I have a theory already, but maybe someone can confirm.

Does the c1571 have the same 8 (or 4, as it's DD) track offset as the double sided PC drives between the lower and the upper head? ( I assume: yes)

I have an old disk, and the first 4 tracks of side B seem to be in reverse direction of the rest of them, when dumped in my flippy-modded drive with -b-8 . I suspect this is, because it once was written as flippy side in single-sided mode and later reformatted using the C128/1571 double sided mode, leaving the first 4 tracks as they were.

No, it is not offset. It is directly over the other head... 99.9% positive, although I haven't looked at it in years. :)
