Dumping Apple floppies ?

Post by Vipersan » Mon Sep 10, 2018 11:33 am

Finally decided to tackle my 30 or so Apple Floppies.
These are either genuine originals or made on or for Apple I or II ..
I have no idea what settings to use here ..
The DOS used is likely to be 3.2 but really I have no idea ..just guessing ..
So what format to dump in .?
again no idea .
Is there an emu output I can choose ..like .D64 for the commodore ?
That way I can check dumped disk content on a PC
I tried my first one
MECC Computer Inspector (Genuine disk)
and used stream dump which appears to produce all green sectors on the GUI ..
but I have no way to check what has actually been dumped ?
can someone please advise.
and keep in mind I'm still a newb here and use the GUI

Any random batch of Apple II floppy disks are more likely to be in Apple DOS 3.3 format with perhaps a few Apple DOS 3.2 sprinkled in. I'd default to 3.3 and if that does not work then try DOS 3.2. The Kryoflux GUI will save to an image file that can be used in emulators.

Keep in mind that most commercial titles are copy protected and therefore may not decode properly, and will not run in an emulator unless an unprotected is applied.

The kryoflux will let you dump the first side of an Apple II floppy disk, however be aware that to read the back side of a "flippy" disk that does not have a second index hole, you must use a special "flippy modded" floppy drive.

The main issue with early protected Apple software is the same as was with Commodore 64 some years ago - all the custom formats need to be documented so a procedure to verify the data can be made.

Well ..
all I can do for now is wait until the drive I ordered arrives ..which hopefully I can mod as a flippy.
Then maybe I can dump these disks correctly.
we shall see.
