Writing stream Kryoflux files to a Macintosh 400/800k disk

Post by DoctorGianlu »

Hello, I'm not a technician and I'm struggling to build up a correct syntax to write Kryoflux stream files to a disk and recreate a 400 or 800k Macintosh 3,5" disk. I'm using Terminal in Mac OS X Sonoma.
Additional question: where should I put the folder to be read? (the folder cointaining the stream files)
Thanks for your support

It's just "dtc -f<pathtostreamfiles/firstfile> -w". It does'nt matter where the folder is. It's up to your choice!

But the original disk has to be index aligned, which means the first sector of a track has to start right after the index pulse! With commercially duplicated disks this is almost always the case. But user formatted 400K and 800K Mac disks ignore the index pulse!

Thanks but I did try it before with this syntax:

dtc -f</Users/gianluca/Desktop/Kryoflux Images/Aldus Page Maker 1.2/Aldus Page Maker Program Disk/track00.0.raw> -w

and I got this error message:

-bash: /Users/gianluca/Desktop/Kryoflux: No such file or directory

With no spaces:

dtc -f</Users/gianluca/Desktop/PM12> -w

I get:
At least one image type must be defined - not including stream files

Try "dtc -f/Users/gianluca/Desktop/PM12/track00.0.raw -w"

Don't type spaces or "<" and ">" in the pathname...

Great! Now it writes to the disk but the resultingfloppy is unreadable by the Mac.
Is there any parameter about floppy or image format that i can add?

Is it possible to upload the track00.0.raw file to have a look at it?

That decodes fine so far and looks index aligned to me. Are all fields green, if you dump the floppy with the GUI (Apple DOS 400K/800K sector image)?

If not does it get better if you toggle the density switch in the "Drive" menu?

I did use the GUI to dump it.

I'll try toggling density and let you know
