KryoFlux Atari Analyzer and Converter to STX images

Post by DrCoolZic » Thu Jan 23, 2014 12:33 pm

The Aufit Program (Atari Universal FD Image Tool) is a program that allow to analyze and generate images for Atari users.

The main functions of Aufit is to
  • visualize the content of a FD imaged with Kryoflux using several charts: Histogram, Scattered charts, Track dat content, clock, Disk Layout, etc.
  • output Pasti STX images from KF raw stream files. STX images can be used in Steem and Saint (and soon to come Hatari) emulators.

So to Atari users the benefit are:
  • the capability to fully analyze the content of the stream images before sending them to SPS and theretofore make sure that they are of good quality
  • the capability to run STX images of games in your favorite emulators immediately after running DTC, instead of waiting for IPF files to come back from SPS.
The program is still in beta so might run into some problems but it has already been tested on more than 100 games so should work in most cases.
The most important thing to watch when converting images or when sending to SPS images is the quality of KF images.
One chapter of the documentation is about quality make sure you read it.

The program runs only on Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 with .Net Framework 4.5 or above installed. It will not work on Windows XP
For more detail on installing and running the program reads the provided documentation

KryoFlux Atari Analyzer and Converter to STX images

New release of Aufit V0.3a - Detect incomplete data, NFA correctly displayed, More robust

- In some cases (shifted track) it is necessary to image several revolutions. This new version detects when not enough revolutions have been imaged.
- Ask permission to write Pasti file if incomplete data
- NFA over index is now displayed correctly when reading from KryoFlux
- Improved graphs
- updated documentation
- Should be much more robust when reading really bad images

Been using this to check some ST games a friend has let me dump, and it seems to create working STX files so far! However, some games cause Aufit to crash when clicking the 'Master View' tab, one example is Jupiter Probe, if you click track 79.0 and then click 'Master View' Aufit stops working!

Also, when dumping some unprotected disks, I saw Aufit show the odd orange box as though protected, redumping then showed green? Also dumped some 3 disk Advantage Shareware sets and one set, Clip Art Pack One (which also causes Aufit to stop working when clicking 'Master View'), shows all 3 disks as orange, with 11 sectors and sector 66 duplicated twice and no data? As I've never dumped many ST disks not sure what to make of it, did they copy protect the disks? The disk works as an STX in HiRes mode in STEEM though!

I dump with the -i0 -i4 -l8 parameters, also dumping on Windows 10 x64!!

The master view is experimental so do not use it.
When ready you will be able to generate IPF files and perfect STX files ...
Unfortunately I currently have no time to spend on improving Aufit ... so be patient

Patience seems to be standard where preservation projects are concerned

I can convert non-protected Atari ST disks using DTC and -i4 as well. Those Advantage Shareware disks with DSN/SND for sector 66 converted and ran no problem using DTC so I do that first and the use Aufit if the disk doesn't work in STEEM!
