How to create 360k image from 80track dump

Post by Darkstar » Sun Sep 29, 2013 6:31 pm

Every single time I try to dump something I have to search the forums for the correct syntax of DTC. Except that this time, even the search turned up nothing :)

I dumped a 5,25 DD disk (360k) using a HD disk drive (80 tracks) via the GUI. Now I want to convert the stream files to IMG.

What's the correct DTC syntax to do this? I always end up with an invalid 720k file instead of a 360k one, no matter where I put the -k2 switch in the command line

help?

thx

Ah, just found it out. It has to go before the -i- This is probably the most annoying thing about dtc.exe that I always end up doing wrong...

If you have an idea how to make it better, let us know. We need exporter specific parameters and this is the only way that seems to make sense.

I understand the need for format-specific options. But at least describing it in "dtc -h" output would help I guess.

They should be explained in depth in the manual, hard to explain this kind of switch on a parameter list...

How about something like:

Usage: dtc {[options] -i<type>} ...

? I think the important thing to get across is that -i always ends the format specification, so it needs to be after any format options.

No, as there are image dependent ones and ones that apply to all, again, see manual.

But will keep this in mind for updates.

How about:

Usage: dtc [global options] {[image specific options] -i type} ...
Global options:
.... <list of global options>
Image specific options:
.... <list of image-related options>

What about options that apply to both? Third category? How explain the difference there?

We can add this, but people will need to read the manual...
