Modify 5.25" drive to read "flippy" disks in one pass

Post by MiaooaiM » Tue Dec 04, 2012 9:46 pm

Hi,
I've take a look at the you tube videos and by now I have 2 question about them:

1) How many millimiters have to be removed from the head support? I think to understood 3mm, is right?
2) I've take a look at the Panasonic driver datasheets, and I think that the TP8 point is the signal from the 0 track sensor. So, the transistors has to blind the 0 track sensor when the pin 23 is high?

Thank you if you can help me.
Regards
Giuseppe

Hello, Giuseppe!

1. I'm not sure if you're talking about the metal drive chassis (covered at the start of part 2 of the videos), or the black plastic carrier (about 5 minutes into part 2). Either way, about 3mm, is all you need to remove.
2. TP8 is, indeed the high-side of the track 0 sensor. The whole purpose of the electrical part of this mod is to bypass the track 0 sensor when we want to. But, it's pin 33, not pin 23.

Cheers!
Robert

Hello,

I am searching for someone who can modify my Panasonic JU 475-5 for flippy support according to the youtube videos.
Of course, I ll pay for the efforts.
