C64 Jack the Nipper (Cyan loader)

Post by curtcoder » Mon Aug 06, 2012 9:00 pm

Is there support for Cyan loader yet? It seems like the key track 40 is not recognized?

Are you talking about 78 or 80? 78 is track 39 - and yours appears to be bad since it cannot be read. 80 (40) could be a special format for cyan loader which shows as unformatted during a blind dump?

I know the V-Max and vorpal titles show Unformatted for certain tracks during a blind dump.

However there is no Cyan support in the newest DTC that I'm aware of. I'll have to poll my games and upload some more CYAN titles in hopes that the support will be added soon - much like Pirateslayer (EA) games.

Yes, give us dumps so we can support it. :)

Hi.
I have another cyan loader title on track 40, z-pilot. If and whenever I get my drive back from being fixed to work on flippies and providing it hasn't been damaged, I'll submit a dump of the game for you to look at.
on most cyan v1 titles I've seen, Track 40 consists of normal cbm data but there is a strange little pattern on track 16. When testing it out, keep in mind that the protection will not work on a 1571 drive, you will get a reset after it tries to read the data on track 40, as if you are trying to load an incorrectly copied disk.
it must be loaded on a 1541.
with cyan loader v2, they seem to have taken care of that issue and the protection will pass on either drive. It consists of a string of zeros (unformated data) on track 32, sector 1 wich both drives have no problem with.

Please submit a ticket:
http://www.softpres.org/contact

or PM MrVince :)

However, the amount of errors seen here or in the other thread is not normal at all.
I'd definitely get the drive head re-aligned if you get similar results for other disks too.

cyan loader v1 works fine on the 2 titles I have dumped. Z-Pilot and Express Raider. Both have the 1/2 track data at track 40 which is read and reproduced fine.

Will try a couple of cyan loader v2's tomorrow.

Hi.
cyan v1 titles consist of a short run of $56 bytes on track 40 sector 16, the rest of the track contains normal cbm data.
Cheers.

I dumped Rick Dangerous (Firebird) yesterday. According to this quote from October 2012 it should work.
IFW wrote:The newly, "officially" supported protection list is:
Cyan loader (weak bits)
Datasoft custom (weak bits)
Datasoft cbm (weak bits)
Melbourne House/Martech (weak bits)
Data Duplication
PirateBusters v1.0
PirateBusters v2.0
PirateSlayer

...plus the dozens of custom formats, protections and their variants that were already supported by previous DTC versions.

As usual, everything is automatically detected by DTC, no user selection is required.

Creating g64 images of games using the above listed protections may or may not have worked with previous DTC releases - they always work now. 8-)
But the resulting g64 doesn't work in WinVice (SPS). Cyan Border and reset. The dump itself (-i6) was error free.

You know the drill... upload the dump and I'll take a look :)
Afaik I have dumped my own RD disk (or was it RD2..? Can't remember...) and it works fine.
