Give up, and mark head position as unknown (track 65535).

IFW can explain the latter.

The problem is that whenever I try to buy such a drive on eBay the last two weeks (mainly looking for a 360K 5.25" drive), someone else always feels he should pay more than I do. The last one went for over EUR 20,- and I am more or less confident I get outbid by people buying them for KryoFlux. ;)

So please... can someone just send over such a drive for inspection? Otherwise we won't get the chance to inspect one... I fear...

I usually avoid ebay for such things: too expensive. The ones i use now are part of old machines i use ( retrocomputerist ;-) ), and i'd like to avoid putting them into italian mail system hands.
Though these drives comes up from time to time on the flea markets i visit almost weekly (usually mounted inside some old olivetti computers), next time one comes up i'll gladly donate it to one of the developers.
