Drives confirmed working with KryoFlux
Re: Drives confirmed working with KryoFlux
Are TEAC FD-55-A drives (180k, single sided, double density) useful for dumping C64/C128 5,25" floppy disks? Or should I look for the FD-55-GFR variant of these?

A 40track drive like the TEAC FD-55-A can't read halftracks which have often been used for copyprotection. (The commodore drives like the 1541 could adress 80 tracks!)

Re: Drives confirmed working with KryoFlux
I know the Newtronics 5.25" drives are listed as being 100% compatible, but are they good drives in general?
Re: Drives confirmed working with KryoFlux
Yes and no. But more yes than no. These are not the most durable ones, but they usually work pretty well. They lack the die cast chassis of older drives, so just sheet metal here. But again, they do work and these are the ones where we still have a few NOS ones which we regularly give out to institutions. In about 6 years of distributing them, we had a single one that was bad, all the others apparently work fine.donutbruit wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 7:39 pm I know the Newtronics 5.25" drives are listed as being 100% compatible, but are they good drives in general?
