The Popolus floppy you sent me, writes and runs fine as far as I can see. But it does not boot because it is not a bootable disk! You have to open it from a running workbench...

The turricane2 floppy is not a valid adf file at all! Also the raw files of that disk can't be converted to an adf file! It has a special format with no common sector separation (apart of the first track).

I would say that turrican2 is nothing for a newbie to start with but a piece for the masterclass!

I tried to start the disk I created after I booted my workbench 3.1.4 but I only see the disk symbol with the message disk "unreadable".

Furthermore after I used the adf writer(GoADF) in the first place to create the test-master-disk (before using DTC) I was able to boot from the disk because the disk automatically booted into the workbench that was on the disk itself.

Is it possible that you provide me with an adf and ipf file that worked on your side in order to verify it on my side. Simply used the share I provided to you.

Well you still have two files that work on my side (The turrican2 ipf you tested before and the popolus.adf you did send me). I guess there's no need to upload them again. If you could write the turrican ipf your hardware seems to be working. There must be something wrong with your workflow instead!

Did you use DD floppies or if you used HD did you fool them to DD with covering the HD notch at least?

Did you set the PAL/NTSC-Flag acording to your target system (which will effect the bitsize)?

For NTSC you should type "dtc -f<imagefile.adf> -w -wp1" to get it right...

I guess you allready went through the pages 24 to 26 of the manual at http://www.kryoflux.com/download/kryoflux_manual.pdf

I used a DD disk and a HD disk (with covered notch) for testing with the same result.
Did you set the PAL/NTSC-Flag acording to your target system (which will effect the bitsize)?

Considering the fact that I am located in germany I assume that I need to use the PAL option, however I also used the wp1 option but the result is the same.

I additionally tested it by writing the imagefile (uploaded to my cloud storage) with two different floppy drives I bought for the kryoflux without success (Samsung SFD-3218 and Mitsu,o D353M3D).

I did read it again, this does not guaranty that I understood all things written in the pages but I did my best.

Could you please write the popolus adf file to a floppy, read it again from that disk as a raw stream and upload that to your cloud space so that I can have a look on it...

I know that you did that with the turrican2 files you uploaded, but they are so different from a standard amiga format that it impossible to analyze them (at least for me)!

Hi,

I created the image as requested.

(1) Use the adf disk image in order to write it to the HD disk (with covered notch)
(2) Create a image using the parameter -f<path><filename.img> -i0
(3) Uploaded it to the cloud
(4) Write the image to the disk (-w) in order to confirm that the disk is not booting anymore afterwards.

The raw stream files you did send are me defintiley not from a floppy written by kryoflux hardware but written by an amiga! Why can I say that?

The amiga doesn't care about the index signal. It always writes a whole track starting from wherever the head is when beginning. The Kryoflux always writes index alligned (as professional duplicators do, which have been used to produce the original floppies).

So the difference is seen in the two pictures here. First you see the raw stream you did send me. Every track starts at a different position and not alligned to the index (at 3 o clock).

Second you see how it should look written by kryoflux with everything alligned to the index.

Copying the unaligned floppy will always fail, as dtc writes from index to index (when you want to copy in raw mode), and therefore the index must be within the gap. Otherwise there will be bits missing or overlapping in the middle of a sector which results in a not readable floppy!

Hello David,

thank you for the detailed description about what you see and for the time you invested to analyse the data.

I don't know what I should say to that facts because all I did was connecting the PC with Windows 10 via USB Port to the kryoflux and then to the floppy disk (for sure adding the powersupply).

Maybe the "original" floppy isn't that original at all and was copied on an amiga before (or written with GoADF instead of using the kryoflux hardware)...

But nevertheless it should work if you copy this disk to an adf file and write back the adf file as this procedure would realign the index...

(This is exactly what I did when I wrote the populous adf file that you sent me and found that it worked fine. Of course, this only works if there is no copy protection involved.)
