8" disk imaging

So, I have a set of 8" disks for a system with unknown specifications. I don't know the format, the disk size, or anything other than the physical media size. I have a Kryoflux and have made images of 3.5" and 5.25" disks many times but I have never worked with an 8" disk. I have to pick up a drive, a cable, an adapter, and power supply for this. My question is, what is the recommended procedure to identify formatting on these disks? Any help would be appreciated as this is for a preservation project. Thanks!

If the disks seem to be in good condition I'd just do a dump of first couple of tracks and look at the scatter plot of the UI. Two horizontal lines would point to FM and three lines to MFM formatted disks to begin with.

Thanks! This seems like the best way.
