No flux reversal found (with log)

Post by molloch » Sun Nov 11, 2018 11:56 am

Hi there,

no matter what I'm doing, each sector of any Commodore Amiga 3,5" disk fails to read with "No flux reversal found" (see part of the log below).

I bought a "new" NEC FD1231H (that later turned out to be slightly dented at one corner, but otherwise seems to be fine), and all the Kryoflux LED on the board do not indicate anything wrong.

I calibrated the drive (drive 0, only one drive attached) and tried out quite a few different disks. All of these disks were in use sometime between 1988 and ~1995, but I cannot confirm that they would still be readable on an original drive. All sectors will turn up "red".

Here's part of the log - has anyone any idea what I should try? Is anyone from the Munich/ Germany area here who has a working set and who would be willing to let me copy some disks?

Could you post an example flux preservation dump?

At a glance, "-dd0" should, I think, be "-dd1" as Amgia disks are low-density, although most 1.44mb drives figure this out themselves and ignore that parameter. Yes, it is confusing as the kryoflux refers to the density line's logic level which is normally the reverse of the density. (logic level low=high density, logic level high=low density). A few oddball floppy drive models have this the other way around. If using the GUI just select "density line High" from the drop down menu.

Thank you,

I will give that a try and post my findings later (probably not today). If I remember correctly, though, I already tried that as well without any success.

I will also post an example Dump next time.
