8" Floppies - Help with Disk Format

Post by adamsabi » Thu Jan 18, 2018 5:23 pm

I've attached a link to stream files for a few 8" floppies. I'm trying to determine their disk format. All I know is they were created on a TRS-80 Model II.

The first one had a buffering error but the other two seem to be okay, according to the log files.

They are SS/DD, 468k size,

First track fm-encoding, 26 sectors, 128 byte...

Track 2-77 is mfm-encoding,26 sectors, 256 byte...

The HxC Tool reads the stream data and creates .jv3 images for TRS80-Emulators. I couldn't test the images (no emulator here) but the hex-data look fine with readable strings like "(c) 1980 by TANDY CORPORATION" etc.

Thank you! So I had tried to create an MFM and FM sector image with the KryoFlux software, pointing to the stream files, but I ended up with empty files (0 bytes). If the disks' encoding is MFM and FM, then I should be able to do this, correct, even though I would just end up with the raw data?

With the HxC Tool, can I just download the software? Which version did you use?

Would you mind posting or sending me the configuration/settings in HxC for converting the stream files?

Just load the raw data via the menu "Floppy image/Load" and select the first raw-file (e.g. track00.0.raw). Loading includes anlyzing and will take quite a while. After that klick on "Track Analyzer" and activate FM and MFM only to view the floppy content.

To export the data go to "Floppy image/Export disk/Save As"...

You'll find the complete documentation at http://hxc2001-com
