Understanding different read patterns...

Post by ross-spencer » Tue May 02, 2017 1:57 am

Hi Folks,

Would any of you know what I might be missing in my disk config for the pattern attached to this post. It's odd that it appears to be only reading every other sector.

The disk is IBM formatted and mounts okay once read, but is there something I'm missing?

Code: Select all

 My Settings:
 Density: Double
 Sectors: 40
 Tracks: 8
 RPM: 300
 Format: MFM

Are you reading this using a 40-track drive, but with also the switch -k2, which is meant for a 80-track drive, so it skips every other track giving you only 20 or so tracks per side?

I guess in my UI settings 40 tracks would translate to -k2.

It looks are seeing 40 bytes output for this (the others are meant to be grey but i recreated this from a stream file to save the disk)

So for 40 track disks KryoFlux draws the grey/unknown blocks in-between in the GUI? If it were 80 the read would look contiguous?

Just an observation, but RPM 360 in that pic suggests you're dumping a 1.2MB 5.25" disk!
