Wrong calculation in GUI?

Post by brightcaster » Fri Aug 12, 2016 8:31 pm

I'm not sure if I misunderstand the message or if it is a (very minor) bug?

I just made an image of the SmartBootManager-Disk using the Kryoflux-GUI. The disk is standard MFM with 18 sectors but 81 tracks. Because I wrote the disk (years ago) with DD (from the smb.img-file you can download from several sources) I was not wondering about the tracks all marked as modified (orange H).

What makes me curios is the fact that the gui tells me "168 Tracks: 162 good (160 modified), 6 unkown"!

Shouldn't it be 162 modified (as both sides with all 81 tracks from 0 to 80 are marked as orange H in the gui? Or is the KryoFlux software checking only the first 80 tracks for calculating the number of modified tracks even if it shows them all up to track 83?

I think it would be useful to post the disk stream files somewhere to see exactly what happens.

I'm sorry but that took quite a while, as I had to split them in two separate zip-files (due to a 20mb upload-restrictioin)...

Here they are:

Tracks 80.0 and 80.1 both contain 18x exactly the same sector. Even the sector number is the same. That's why DTC detects only one sector. Also, only *H (header extra data found) is logged but not +n (modified sectors found). As a result the GUI shows "Good*" but not "Good*+Modified" as with the other tracks. So calculation in GUI is fine. It's just that these two tracks are strange and I highly doubt that these originally came from a sector image file like smb.img. Perhaps they have already been on disk before smb.img has been written.

Yep, I see it now! The original sbm.img (http://linux.simple.be/tools/sbm) is only 108kByte in size! So almost the whole disk contains data from earlier writings. A quick view with a hex-editor shows a lot of microsoft copyright strings which will definitely not correspond with the gpl state of the smartbootmanager disk!

Thanks a lot for gaining my knowledge!
