Control command rejected by the device

Post by rtiainen » Sun Apr 16, 2017 8:27 pm

Hi,

I have been using Kryoflux rev. B board few years now. However, now I have recabled my stuff, and now Kryoflux fails to respond. Or to be more precise Kryoflux responds to the host system, but it is unable to access drives.

After powering up the Kryoflux and the drive testing the connection:

$ dtc -c2
Device Status command failed'
$

This is expected. Kryoflux leds start to alternate, and all is good. However, attempting to seek again fails:

$ dtc -c2
Control command rejected by the device
CM: maxtrack=0
$

All attempts to access the drive fails. Drive's access led blinks, however, no seek happens. When there is a disk in the drive, disk spins weakly. No seek then either. It should be noted that this very drive worked before, and I have tested other drives as well with no success.

I'm using KryoFlux DiskTool Console, v2.62_OSX_x86-64, uiv.1, May 29 2016, 00:18:27.

I suspected the drive power supply, but it provides normal +5 VDC and +12 VDC when measured without load.

Is there any diagnostic to perform to determine if Kryoflux itself is broken? Any ideas?

Thanks,
Sami

Forgot to mention that imaging disks does not work either. Attempting to image leads always to failure:

$ dtc -p -fdisk/track -i0

It seems that disk spins but drive does not seek.

From what I see, this can be a bad floppy cable or drive...

this happens to me as well if I power on my dumping line to quickly. So, if I connect the KF board to my PC and right after that power on the disk drive, I'm getting the same result as the OP.
If I give it some time between those steps (maybe half a minute to 1 minute) it works.
