info needed on 5 1/4" dumping

Post by tomse »

I have problems dumping HD DOS diskettes.
it's a teac fd-55gfr 5 1/4" drive, using 2.20 software on windows, and the slow firmware (fast firmware also tested but not used that much)
I've tried a number of other 5 1/4" drives -same issue-, I don't have the model numbers for these.

The output is "Unknown format" or "unformatted" (atm I don't remember what it was, but it was not "OK")

parameters used are
dtc -fmyfile.img -v360 -i4

I've also tried dumping DD disks
dtc -fmyfile.img -v300 -k2 -i4 (the output here said it was running 360rpm, is this normal behavior?)

I was lucky dumping a HD diskette as DD disk, but most files didn't work ofc.

If its unformatted, data might be bad or drive misaligned (very common for off-eBay purchases).

If you use the GUI, can you dump raw, too, and make a screenshot?

This is what happens on all my 5 1/4" original disks (which are factory write protected)

We need the scatter view. Sorry, did not mention this, seemed too obvious to me.

Looks like you only selected stream files as an output?

Could you please upload the first few tracks of a disk that shows unformatted, but definitely contains data.
Thanks.

@IFW Post#1 that was just for the screenshots, I originally chose MFM

@IFW Post#2 how do you want them, as stream or img files or both ?

cheers

Just stream files; everything can be generated by DTC from stream files just like as if it was reading a real disk.
