Please use: info files / dump scripts when submitting dumps

Post by Interceptor » Tue Nov 23, 2010 8:39 pm

When submitting game dumps to SPS using Kryoflux/DTC, we need extra information about the game being dumped. i will attach dump scripts here that ask questions and generate these, but this will take me a few days. the first is attached, i will update this post as i add more.

meanwhile if you are not using any of the scripts, please can you create and attach a txt file to your archives in the following format:

Code: Select all

Game Title: A_Game
Number of Disks: 1
Publisher and/or Developer: USGold
Retail, Budget or Compilation (with name): Retail
Year: 1991
Country of Release: UK
Language(s): English, French, German
Platform (Amiga, AtariST, PC etc): AmstradCPC
Media Type (3.5Inch, 5.25Inch etc): 3Inch
Recommended Model (Amiga 500, Atari STE, CPC 6128+ etc): none
Place of Purchase: eBay
Game Working: none
NTSC or PAL: none
Any Extra Information: BoxSealed
Disk 1 Side A Label: "Side 1"
Disk 1 Side B Label: "Side 2"
if you can also take a picture or scan of the box that helps us identify the game version.

So far here are the posted scripts, these are what I use myself, It will ask the required information and generate the avove info file itself. unzip them to the same folder as DTC and the firmware etc. double click the script to run it.

Script for Most Systems (80 Track Drives Only!), This can be used for any 80 track drive, will ask which drive before dumping each disk, good for mixed media. DO NOT USE WITH 40 TRACK DRIVES!!
DoDump.zip
Generic Dumping Script (80 Track Only)
(1.42 KiB) Downloaded 598 times
Script for Amstrad CPC / Spectrum Disks, Assumes the drive responds as drive 0, Requires both sides to be dumped per disk, creates one single set of files automatically.
DoDumpCPC.zip
CPC & Spectrum +3 Dump Script
(1.42 KiB) Downloaded 331 times
any issues or suggestions with the usage of the script then please post here.

Photos/scans of all the disk(s) and box front/back can be very useful identifying the correct SKU.
If a disk has different labelling on its back, a photo/scan of the back would be useful too.

Thanks :)

C64 dump script - based on SPS DoDump. Tested to work with 5.25" Panasonic and Newtronics drives. Tested in Windows 7.

Features

- Image naming convention in SPS style (C64)
- Single disk and multi disk support
- Creates folders automatically
- Automatic info file creation based on given answers
- Prints c64 disk formats before dumping so user can select Vorpal for example instead of normal 6.
- Creates d64 & g64 after dumping
- Compresses package after each disk finished or after last disk finished (Note: Remember include photos to archive if possible).
- Redump previously failed disks
- Redump previously failed tracks -> user has to know which tracks failed
- Configure retry amount for failed tracks and select disk sides (both, side 0, side 1)
- Destinations + home folders configuration possible from :WARMUP
- Easy to configure: Toggle on / off from menu for some "features" or change them permanently from :WARMUP

Instructions:
Put script to the same folder with dtc and download 7zip command line version if want to use it (you can put 7za.exe anywhere you want but make sure that is on path or in the same folder with dtc).
http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

Change paths + other needed defaults from :WARMUP

Code: Select all

DTC_DTCHome (Folder where dtc.exe is)
DTC_Destination (Dump destination)
DTC_D64Destination (D64 images destination)
DTC_G64Destination (G64 images destination)

Edit 16th March 2014 : New version 1.5, updated features list
Changes from version 1.4 to 1.5
- Image naming convention changed to same style as SPS C64 dumps
- Compression is done now after each disk or after last disk (toggle selection in the menu)
- Added DTC_TrackPhysicalPosition for different drive types (eg. Panasonic and Newtronics)
- Added DTC_dd parameter (drive density line LD / HD)
- Few minor fixes

Is it absolutely critical that the dump scripts are to be used before a release submit to the SPS team? I have a large set of dumped floppies already (dumped using a KF with the preservation profile) but they are named differently than what the script generates, and it would be a gigantic job of re-dumping everything just to get the filenames and extra text file done. The stream dumps will be the same anyway, and any additional info is already provided with the high resolution scans of the floppies and covers that I've already scanned. I could even manually create the text file with the basic info if needed. Everything I got is already well sorted, dumped and scanned.

Probably not. Basically it should much easier to implement for Unix environment but unfortunately I don't have time to develop it right now.

Oh great :( 246 dumps and not one done correctly. Well, back to the starting board it seems. Going to have to edit the batch files too, as a rather large number of my disks aren't 80 track disks. They're good enough for my personal archive, I'm sure, but I'm planning on submitting them as well. Will probably be easier to just re-dump them, though. I'm also trying to figure out how to get scans/pics of the disks, as I don't have a camera or a scanner available. While I have the disks, the boxes are ...well... boxed away in storage :(

Ack... Also, without the boxes, some of the answers above, I just don't know the answers too (version, etc...) I know, for example, that some of these came in a compilation, but I'm not sure which ones or which compilation they came with :(
