Help with dump QNX 1.2

Post by robbo007 »

Hi guys,
Could someone help with writing back this dump to floppy disk? I get the error: "The image contains invalid or incompatible data” when trying to write back with dtc -w -w0 -f"raw_file.0" -d1

The software seems to have some disk based protection on track 39 but the raw files don't seen to even start writing. It bombs out without writing anything???

Dump is here:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/2tlkg5oe ... w.rar/file

Thanks,

The odd tracks are missing! Renaming the raw files from 0 to 39 will do the trick (and adding "-k1" and "-oe40" if you use a 40track drive for writing).

I also don't know about a "-w0" parameter!? It could be "wi0" but that should be obsolete as it is set as default...

thanks for responding. What naming method are you using? I've renamed the tracks like this: https://www.mediafire.com/file/4crkqj4e ... e.zip/file

I've tried also qnx0,raw qnx1,raw qnx2.raw etc and and get the same error. I'm using a 96tpi floppy drive to write.

It has nothing to do with the naming of the files! I tried to write them too, just to see that I can't either! What version of dtc are you using. The files have been dumped with dtc v3.0 which is not available for my linux machine....

I'm using dtc v3.0. No way of writing. The files can be opened in HxC strangely enough.

Some track raw files are also empty, with no data stored! But that's another issue....

(track 32 and 37 on side 0 for example on qnx12_boot)

They are looking strange in HxC! The last dump you posted is reported as having 150ms between the index pulses on some tracks as if reading was at 400rpm! What is that?! Don't know how much I can trust HxC in that case because it's only in track view while stream view reports 200ms/300 rpm...

Best use the first compressed file I sent you originally: qnx12-kryoflux-raw.rar This has the original raw files in it. I might have messed with the second image I sent you.

I was able to decode these mostly OK with the PCE emulator tools. There were some bad sectors in "qnx12_dosfsys_" but they were all in the blank area. BTW, why is there one image named qnx12_dosfsys and another different one named qnx12_dosfsys_ ? (note the underscore at the end).

I agree HxC does not seem to be liking these. It looks like there might be some minor damage, but it also feels like there might be some issue with the way the disks were mastered. At first I thought there might be copy protection. You might try a careful surface inspection, cleaning, and redump. Perhaps try reading with a 360k drive.
