X68000 Dumping

Post by Peepo » Thu Sep 07, 2017 11:22 am

Hi folks,
Managed to borrow some Sharp X68000 originals from a colleague. It seems the cost of games for this system is a little crazy to say the least - so important to get them preserved right? :D

I have started with Burning Fest (Disk A).
Using the command:

Code: Select all

dtc -p -fdumps/X68K/BurningFestDiskA/BFA_ -i -v360 -z3 -i4 -l8 -t20
Side 0 seems fine for all tracks, but getting varied results for side 1 (unformatted, bad sectors etc.)
I have uploaded a zip with 7 separate dumps to the FTP and I was wondering if somebody with the knowledge could take a look and see what is going on please?
I'm wondering if the bad sectors should be there for copy protection maybe? Just looking to get good dumps of these before I have to hand them back.
Any suggestions / advice is welcome as always.

Cheers!

Please note that other forum users can't download from our FTP server. I'd recommend picking a hosting solution or similar.

Thanks Mr. Vince. I didn't want to spread them about too publicly as I was pretty sure they were no good.

I've since given the disk a good clean and dumped a few more and they seem better. One other thing is that some tracks show as unformatted, but HxCFloppyEmulator loads them in fine showing no errors. I think I read about others with a similar issue to that previously.
Anyway I'll upload to FTP once they are all done.

Great! Do you need to return these soon? Just asking to see how urgent it is to check them.

Just checked them over with converting to image with -m1 and:

Burning Fest disk B - one track incorrectly shown as unformatted.

The New Zealand Story - both disks have 3x track [000] at the end, likely a protection.

Gradius 2 & Twin Bee - both are either modified or not factory mastered, both disk A's have abnormal track 04.1 which is likely a protection.

Edit: Checked also few disks with the test dtc graphs and either the top side of those floppies or the top drive head is dirty. Side 0 graphs show consistent green but side 1 has very noisy signal and lots of red in the consistency graph.
