Mystery Disk (to me, anyway)

Post by rcade »

HI guys,

I was helping out a friend with imaging some disks from unknown systems and ran across this one.

Can you identify what this might be from the scatter plot? The primary signal seems to be 8us? Does that mean it's high density? (this is 3.5 media, BTW)

Looks like it's been inverted but don't think that's possible timing wise. Also lacks the middle band...

Unfortunately, it's part of a contribution to a museum, so it can't be released. I can say it came with a VideoWriter, but this doesn't seem to be a VideoWriter disk... Those were normal looking (to me) 4us bands, with 6us and 8us "harmonics".

This one we don't know what it's from...

The only thing that comes to mind with such pattern is FM formatted empty sectors. Short burts as sector headers and long one as plain clock for 0 databits.

Pete, the museum can contact us as they have a Pro licence for KryoFlux which gives them priority support...

I think they already have. Just Wanderung why they haven't been emailing me because we're in touch. Anyway... Will get this sorted.
