Currently, kryoflux doesn't seem to deal too well with write protected floppies on writing. The Windows version gives repeated "Error writing to stream device" while dutifully stepping through the tracks doing nothing. The Linux version usually segfaults or crashes with an error in free() ...

Having trouble writing a working copy of SWIV (SPS #38) from IPF with KryoFlux, on a setup that worked without a hitch for a whole bunch of other games, even on the same physical floppy disk (I mean the disk itself worked for other games and also for AD...

I want to confirm that using a NEC drive seems to be the solution. All the problems I described are gone with this 1998 drive model NEC FD1231H. As you said, it doesn't go beyond track 81, but I doubt any sane software would use anything above that anyway.

I can run it on Ubuntu Oneiric, without the need to create symlink to the linker in /lib. I mean it doesn't crash or refuse to run, but I haven't yet tried to use it to actually read or write disks. Still waiting for the NEC floppy drive to arrive...

Not yet, I think much can be adjusted in software by making pre-compensation more aggressive. Does that mean that my experience that a longer cable helps is not an illusion? EDIT: Maybe a question that's too hard if you aren't an electrical engineer or something like that... I happen to have a dirt...

A little hint just in case you haven't thought about it already, the latest TOSEC dat for Amiga ADFs has MD5 and SHA1 checksums in it too... if you use either of them instead of the CRC32 (which wasn't ever designed as a unique file identifier), your false positives will very likely be ze...
