Re: Virus-infected original disk not reported as modified?

It is quite possible the disk was mastered with that on it. A while back there was mention on the Vintage Computing Forum of an original factory produced disk that had no write notch on it and yet had this same virus: http://www.vintage-computer.com/vcforum ... 17946.html

Re: KryoFlux gives you full floppy support on Windows 10

It was my understanding that they were simply not bundling the generic floppy USB drivers any more with Windows 10. So when connected you would have to either install a manufacturer supplied driver or it would search for one. That by itself is not the worst thing in the world, you had to install dri...

Write a Mac 400/800K sector image using Kryoflux

After some fuzing, I found a way to write a Macintosh 400/800K sector image from a PC using a Kryoflux. Mac 400K/800K 3.5" low-density disks are an unusual format because they use GCR like an Apple II, do not require an index pulse, have different numbers of sectors per track, and use variable bit r...

Re: Miller's Graphics Advanced Diagnostic (TI-99/4a) protection?

Actually, I had already cleaned the disk and I re-cleaned it several times just to be sure. Also didn't have any better luck with other drives. It must be some small bit of physical damage I can't quite see.

Miller's Graphics Advanced Diagnostic (TI-99/4a) protection?

I dumped a Miller's Graphics Advanced Diagnostics disk that is intended to be used with their CorComp 9900 floppy disk controller, but it has a number of "bad" sectors on it. It has some wacky copy protection on it - part of disk uses different sized sectors and track numbering. The disk is clean an...

Re: Bad sectors on first 10 tracks with key disk protection

What has probably happened is that WinImage "sanitized" the data - replacing bad sectors with empty data and avoided reading any extra sectors. DTC tends to just throw everything it thinks it can read in to an image file - technically preferable for preservation, but can result in a mess. Of course,...

Re: IMSAI 8080 shugart 8" SSSD CP/M floppies

Thanks for pointing out that beta, it looks like it does work a lot better. Most of the crashes were from processing blank, degaussed, or extraneous flippy data when reading stream files. nama directly sent me a few more images that were actually a bit more problematic. But I'll leave it up to him i...

Re: IMSAI 8080 shugart 8" SSSD CP/M floppies

That seems a bit unlikely. I didn't pick apart every bit of flux in the image, so the anomalies could be some slightly other issue - but they behave as I would predict for sectors written in an incorrectly set 300rpm drive. I'm also not an expert on CP/M, but it is easy to inadvertently write to a d...

Re: IMSAI 8080 shugart 8" SSSD CP/M floppies

It would be easier to tell if they were all sampled in the NEC drive. Orig workdisk has some incorrectly written sectors on the first couple tracks. 1: Of the ones marked "orig", yes, it looks like they were originally written properly at 360RPM. However I can see that you have since written to your...

Re: IMSAI 8080 shugart 8" SSSD CP/M floppies

Copying between the two drives like that should work as long as the first can read them. Or you can post Kryoflux dumps here and I'll convert them to ImageDisk (or I can show you how) Yes, there is some flexibility in speeds that floppy disk microcontrollers can read the data. They have to be flexib...
