KF doesn't play nice with this c64 game

Hi there
I'm having difficulty getting realms of darkness working.
When I try to load the game, which is in a custom format, the drive head seeks to track 1, then bangs. It does this both on vice sps and real hardware.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Thanks

Re: looking for info about this protection

even in emulation, since vice sps has the ability to enable drive sound, I can usually get a good idea of what the protection is doing by listening to the noises the drive heads make, "cyan loader" and "rapidlok" is a good example HLS has some pretty recognizable drive head noise patterns, but with ...

Re: looking for info about this protection

greetings. I just found a c64 disk it's the US release of Yie ar kungfu II. a search with a hex editor reveals the text "HLS pro demo". It appears to be a sync counting-timing based protection. There are other variants of this scheme used on robocop, batman the movie, speed buggy, aka buggy boy, rus...

pity there isn't a way to "safely" slow the motor down like there is with a speed controller for a 1541.

Naughty, Naughty me!
I can think of one of two things which can break the bypass circuit.
1. hotplugging the card while the drive is still powered on.
2. slowing down the drive motor with your finger in the hopes you'll get a good read of a troublesome track with illegal GCR.
That'll learn me!

Re: have you ever heard of this sort of thing happening befo

come to think of it, I did keep the transformer plugged into the wall even when there was nothing else attached to it. I'll make sure in future that I'll have everything disconnected when I'm not using it.
Cheers.

Re: have you ever heard of this sort of thing happening befo

Hey Pete. is that your voice on the video? just curious. and yes, just like in that video, the power supply made an almighty racket through my radio when I attached it to the drive. I hope I have better luck when I get my drive back this time and nothing breaks. ps: should you look at the power with...

have you ever heard of this sort of thing happening before?

Hi there. I had both a panasonic -4 drive and a -5 drive. both drive suddenly stopped working a few weeks ago, only a few days after I bought them! when I tried to attach my KF to each one and power on the drive, the head kept banging. so to save money, I sent the -4 back to sncboom2k, assuming the ...
