Missing Index Error

I expect the drive belt is broken, these cost about £1 and it takes about 20 mins to replace.

I've had to replace the belt on every 3" drive I've had.

Been a while since I looked at these, but DoDump.bat is generic and doesn't assume any format, making -i4 redundant. It just blind dumps in SPS suitable format :)

Some thoughts about preservation, future ...

It's almost like you want to create a society of people that are dedicated to preserving software, like say, a "software preservation society"?

ZX Spectrum Opus Discovery 3.5" Dumps

If this is a regular 3.5" disk then just dump it as you would an amiga or st disk, don't worry about it being 40 tracks, we'll handle that from the raw dump. DoDumpCPC.bat is for the physical drive/disk requirement, nothing to do with the disk format. I suppose DoDump3inch.bat would have been a bett...

Dumping 2-sided C64 disks

The "official" way is with a drive that allows the head to step behind trk0 to something like -8 on an 80 track drive. That's how they were made I the first place. Anything else is a hack, you either hack a drive or take the disk out of it's sleeve and put it in one with 2 index holes. Aka: the sacr...

We hear you :)

It's writing support that's causing silence right now, but it's nearly there, and it's awesome.

IPF and Openness

Well, we've already decided open is the best way, and were committed to doing it.

However "open" can come with or without license, and there are various license available.

And HOW we open it is what this thread is about :)

Quite a few people say 'you should do this and use this and don't do this and I'd prefer this' But it's useful to know why you think that should or shouldn't be the case, on the basis of what's best for the format overall, it's acceptance and it's practical use as a preservation medium, not just any...
