How green we are - our understanding of protecting the environment

You might want to know about our footprint and how green we are. Here are some insights: 1. Production: Our boards are manufactured by a large German electronics production company. While we can't avoid that part of the production takes place in Asia, we're working with a well respected German compa...

Re: Kryoflux stopped working for two sided disks

What you can do, next time (although I am confident that isn't a KF repair), is to cut the chip. You can dremel off parts of the package, and cut the chip in half. You can then add desoldering solder (the stuff that stays at the required temperature for longer than regular solder, trying to get arou...

Re: Kryoflux stopped working for two sided disks

Not to my knowledge, no. There's no friction or mechanical force on the ICs, so they should not be glued. However, since it's a contractor producing them, can't say for sure. What I can say is that for the very few units we've ever had to service, there's never been any issue with parts glued.

Think about how alignment disks work and then let me know if you got it, otherwise I'll reveal it. ;)

Re: Is this suitable for flippy modding ?

Just be carful with the alignment. Getting it right without an analogue alignment disk can be a nightmare.

Re: Kryoflux stopped working for two sided disks

Might have been static - hot swapping drives is know to cause this from time to time. The bus driver is a standard component - swapping it locally might be the easiest and cheapest way. But contact me (we've emailed before) if you'd like to send it in for service. Glad to see the schematics get used...

Re: Replacement discount?

Send your thanks to Microsoft for this stupidity - we've seen this getting worse and worse. Not much we can do from here.

Note: changing USB ports makes Windows re-install (re-enumerate) the device. So always using the very same port is a good start.

Re: Kryoflux stopped working for two sided disks

Ivan, are you able to hook a scope to the board? The side select comes from the SoC and goes through the bus driver (which translates from 3V to 5V).

Re: Replacement discount?

Can't do much without any further info. Might be that e.g. a PSU is knackered (e.g. generating overvoltage). You might have fried the board by routing the power through the board or by powering a floppy drive through the board (see manual; red warnings). Are you sure the drivers are installed correc...
