Visualizing a C64 floppydisk

Hum now I am confuse. I thought the problem was with old drive? but now MrVince talk about HD drive? They were not used on Atari untli very late production? I understand it is not possible to duplicate on original platform but duplication with dedicated HW was possible in the 80s (Discovery Cartridg...

Re: Visualizing a C64 floppydisk

As the most known example for Amiga, when ESCOM took over production quite a few games and demos failed to work, because they moved to using a newer PC drive type that did not assert the READY signal... I have somewhere about 4 or 6 old original Atari drives + I have two very very old original STf ...

Second time I see this remark :o

Is it difficult to write or to read?

What puzzles me is that NFA seems to be extremely widely used as protection on Atari. Would be surprise it can't be read on some drives ????

Re: Visualizing a C64 floppydisk

I meant the allocated area where they've decided to place the NFA. It is usually used with what I call sector within sector. So you have a sector that have the NFA inside. Inside this sector is located another sector that also contains the NFA this second sector is shifted by a half bitcell. This a...

Re: Visualizing a C64 floppydisk

Having no experience about Atari, I just assume NFA etc. areas are using sectors marked as bad or having bad crc here? This protection write relatively high frequency flux transition on the media. This fools the read channel that returns No transitions for long period of time (e.g. 5 ms). This is n...
