Re: Strange signature detected on wildzwutz

All fine. We believe in free speech. It's just really annoying that every new version gets detected again. Apparently it's some heuristics problem. Those false alarms are usually antivirus softwares' last resort of telling the user "I can't properly check that file because it internally uses script...

Re: C64 disk and the GUI

If you create G64 presets for both sides plus you set the offset for side 1 in the preferences, this works fine in the GUI. Will try and create a How-to with pics. Just so much to do atm. Here are some pics... Setting up your drive options properly for dumping C64 disks: KFSettingsOutput.png KFDens...

Re: Problem importing data from 5.25" drive

A scatter plot looking like this can have several causes. You could first try to clean the drive heads carefully (not too much pressure, especially at the upper head) with isopropyl alcohol and a cotton bud. If the heads are dirty data is hardly readable and while bands are still visible the capture...

Re: Write what you want!

For figuring out if a particular disk is index synced the KF GUI comes in handy: - from the menu select Drive, Stream Files - as Image Profile AmigaDOS (or basically anything) - enter some name like "temp" (you can just overwrite the resulting file everytime if you just want to have a look or just d...

Re: My experiments dumping pc 5 1/4 360K floppies

Feel free to upload some stream files. It should be rather easy to figure out the possible reasons for the errors. A few adjacent tracks per disk should be sufficient. You can consider contributing your dumps of original disks later: http://www.softpres.org/contact - By contributing you not only hel...

Re: My experiments dumping pc 5 1/4 360K floppies

Google reveals that there are many sites stating that it is a 1.2M drive = HD. I would just try with a HD disk and look at the result.

Re: My experiments dumping pc 5 1/4 360K floppies

HD cannot be read using that drive because it is 48 tpi while HD disks are written with 96 tpi (twice the number of tracks = twice the track density / half the track distance). You should really try to get a working HD drive for dumping disks. Please run DTC -c2 to figure out how many tracks your dr...

Re: Bad track counts: MFM imaging vs. stream-to-MFM

I guess that logs wouldn't help very much, what's needed is the flux timings and/or the scatter plot which is provided by the GUI. What really shouldn't matter is Linux vs Windows and GUI vs command line as the GUI acts a front-end and uses the DTC executable under the hood and the relevant code ins...

Re: Bad sector counts: MFM imaging vs. stream-to-MFM

There are two reasons which might be responsible for the read quality degradation on the second pass: abrasion of the magnetic material of the disk surface while reading it for the first time, effectively degrading the quality of the disk dirt, mould and magnetic material accumulating on the drive's...

Re: MFM Copy of CP/M DS/DD Floppy on 40T Drive

Change "Image Type" from "FM sector image" to "MFM sector image" and "Track Distance" to "40 Tracks" or tick "Default". It generally should work then. Additionally (if not already done so) you should go to File -> Settings -> Advanced and set "Max Track, Drive 0" to 39 or 40 for your 48 tpi drive. W...
