Re: Is this suitable for flippy modding ?

So .. having established the flippy mods are working for the most part. I turned my attention to reversing the drive positions so that drive 0 is the 5.25" flippy and drive 1 was the 3.5" drive. This required a new cable ...and of course pin 33 of drive 1 isolating. Sadly still only reading 1 side o...

Re: Is this suitable for flippy modding ?

Thanks ZrX .. progress is slow but I think I will get there .. I will try again withe 3.5" drive connected ...and see if I get the same result using the switches you supplied previously. Physically it does look like the mods were a success which is heading in the right direction. Your help is very m...

Re: Is this suitable for flippy modding ?

Thanks ZrX Tried again ..with just the flippy drive attached to the Kryoflux board ..and single drive mode with the jumpers. I dumped the Defender disk using the command line you provided ..only replacing 'ftest' with 'fDEFENDER' ..so as to make it easier for me to spot. attached is a cut n paste sc...

Re: Is this suitable for flippy modding ?

In desperation I tried another floppy cable connecting the kryoflux unit directly to the modified flippy.. I moved the jumpers back to single drive only and left the 3.5" drive disconnected .. I tried the GUI again ..in just about every mode I could think of .. Side A reports a good scan as does sid...

Re: Is this suitable for flippy modding ?

Yes to all three .. Pin 33 (edge connector) of the flippy drive was cut and isolated .. a wire connected to that isolated pin is connected to the base of the transistor via a 1K resistor. I cut the ribbon (pin33) to the 3.5 inch drive .. ..but also tried with its IDC connector pulled off .. same res...

Re: Is this suitable for flippy modding ?

Ok ..I isolated pin 33 to the 3.5" floppy by cutting a single wire in the ribbon close to its connector.. Sadly nothing changed .. I also tried pulling the drive zero connector just in case I'd cut th wrong one. the GUI behaved just the same .. reads side A perfectly but not side B of the flippy. wh...

Re: Is this suitable for flippy modding ?

That explains a lot ..
can I just isolate the pin on the 1.44mb floppy, leave it floating and have it still function ?
If not I'll fit an external switch ..
but which pin on the 3.5" floppy ..?
still pin 33 ?

Re: Is this suitable for flippy modding ?

Well ..I guess I'm ready to test . The bypass transistor now fitted .. Drive reinstalled in my dual floppy kryo unit. I have tested it insofaras ..it calibrates. I have tried reading a DOS floppy ..(GUI) and the img file created looks good. I popped in the only genuine flippy I own .. Defender of th...

Re: Is this suitable for flippy modding ?

Well ..the drive is reassembled but as yet ..drive board electronics mod has not been done.. I just wanted to test the drive still functioned. I suspect without the transistor mod ..it would not behave as it did previously .. but I at least managed to use calibrate ..and max 83 tracks reported then ...
