Detect disk type

OK, so this may be possible already...

But is there a way for the software to analyse a disk in the drive and determin what type of disk format is used? Sometimes I have disks and don't know if it is Amiga DOS, PC, Apple, Custom format or just corrupted.

Thanks!

Re: Dumping with Toshiba FDD6475S1R 02 Rev A

Also note that if it says it's a 360k drive, then chances are it is 48 tpi (40 tracks) mechanism only and the head is double density. It is impossible to read any 80 track disk with such drive, or dumping all tracks/half-tracks of 40 tracks systems using 80 tracks drive mechanisms, e.g. C64, Apple ...

Re: Dumping with Toshiba FDD6475S1R 02 Rev A

OK, so I fitted the drive into a late 90's PC and after some config messing about got it working. It seems that maybe this drive is only 360K and not 1.2MB as I was led to belive (got the drive from eBay years ago). Might explain the "360" felt-tipped onto the drive  The drive doesn't look tha...

Re: Dumping with Toshiba FDD6475S1R 02 Rev A

Using the "slow" firmware I ran: dtc -c2 and still get: Control command rejected by the device CM: maxtrack=0 So, I ran: DTC -i6 -l15 1>info.txt 2>error.txt Info: 000dc957: status=0 000dc96b: status=0 000dc97f: reset=0 000dcf0f: descriptor=KryoFlux DiskSystem/version=1.00/date=Nov 9 2010/time=20:17:...

Re: Drives confirmed working with KryoFlux

5.25" (DD)

Qume Qumetrac 142 (1985) - Track 80 (81)

I have had success with this drive making .D64 images - but had to use the "slow" firmware to get the max track reading.

Dumping with Toshiba FDD6475S1R 02 Rev A

Hi, I hooked up a 5.25" HD (I believe) drive today: Toshiba FDD6475S1R 02 Rev A I got the following message when running "dtc -c2": Control command rejected by the device CM: maxtrack=0 However, I was able to make some dumps - but they were not as I expected. #1 PC 360K disk dtc -fdisk.img -i4 -k2 -...

Re: Drives confirmed working with KryoFlux

Hi,

So far only tested with 1 drive (more to follow):

3.5"
Panasonic JU-253-071P - Track 83 (84). I believe that this drive can only read DD disks, but maybe this is a jumper restriction?
