No, not necessarily. However, KryoFlux and FTK has cost us a fair bit already so we don't have much spare cash ;)

Still unsure which profile to use

At present, I'm only using the GUI to obtain images from 3-1/2" floppies. Most of the floppies are of unknown origin/content, i.e. I don't know what type of computer created them. I'm using a digital forensic application called FTK to analyse the disk images created by the KryoFlux application. The ...

Re: Windows 7 installation

Did you definately follow each step listed in the KF_Quickstart guide ?

You must do each step in order.

Validating disk imaging tools

Hi, As part of developing my institution's digital archaeology procedures, I need to validate the integrity/accuracy of my newly installed KryoFlux equipment. This is just standard procedure here for benchmarking equipment during the pilot phase, and not because we doubt the ability of the KryoFlux ...

Re: Amstrad 40046 5-1/4" Floppy Drive

I'll give it a few more shots....and try another floppy. This drive is indeed belt driven, all nicely exposed on the underside. I have to be careful about where I place it on the desk in case it gets the belt caught on something ! I think it must be missing it's protective casing, unless it was inst...

Re: Amstrad 40046 5-1/4" Floppy Drive

Thanks Mr Vince - that seems to have worked :D The calibration worked OK, but when creating an image, it had a few problems beyond track 38. I guess as long as it gets all the data, that's OK, but I don't want the read/write head to travel too far and damage anything. If the images I've extracted fr...

Re: Amstrad 40046 5-1/4" Floppy Drive

I've only tried performing a 'calibration' from within the GUI, at which point the read/write head is driven up and down its rails, and the error message appears.

Amstrad 40046 5-1/4" Floppy Drive

Just wondering what experiences, if any, people have had with this drive. I'm aware that it's not listed in the 'confirmed working' drives section. However, I've got hold of one in nice condition, but I can't get it to calibrate. The motor spins up, the R/W head moves up and back once, but the GUI t...

Slow firmware

Easy question for a Monday morning....

For a 'default' new software install, is the firmware.bin file that is present within the DTC folder the 'slow' version ?

I'm aware of the 'fast' version that sits in the fast firmware directory, but I've not touched it.

Thanks.

Re: Advice for digital archivist

Thanks very much for the great reply IFW. Just to follow up on your responses: 1) I should have asked 'which profile do I use with the GUI for standard Microsoft OS disks'. I believe your answer, while correct, is only applicable to command line operations ? I'm initially tempted to try the GUI as m...
