Re: "No disk in drive"

I use a straight cable with my Amstrad FD-1 3" drive and have no issues with the motor not spinning? Have you disconnected the 5v connector from the 34pin / 26pin board inside the 3" drive? Yes, I removed the 5V connector :D - no desire to fry anything! Using my straight through cable I could calib...

Re: "No disk in drive"

Are you sure the motor's spinning? I use a straight through floppy cable with mine for 5.25 and 3.5" drives, but it didn't get on with my Amstrad 3" drive - it would calibrate, but it wasn't actually running the motor, hence the no disk inserted issues. I ended up having to dig out one with a twist ...

Re: Victor 9000 Disks

OK, I've got some other original discs (that I know work as well) - alas, not that DOS or CP/M disk as original. I've a dos 1.25. Is there somewhere I can stick it that's convenient? Just given the drive heads a nice clean. Pg 90+ of the tech reference manual goes into some detail on the format: htt...

Re: Victor 9000 Disks

Crumbs. Not sure what's going on there then. I've just tested both of those discs back in the Victor (they're actually "new" copies made on just opened media). I can read and verify every sector perfectly on both discs, so it looks like it's the drive on the kryoflux (although I've just been dumping...

Re: Victor 9000 Disks

Hmm - the drive that wrote that CP/M disk was playing up a bit, but it does boot fine on the actual machine. I think my dumping drive is probably due a bit of head cleaning though...

Good work on getting some data out of it! It's quite encouraging!

Re: Victor 9000 Disks

I have software that I wrote that can decode RAW streams into bit-streams for a given RPM, I've just never updated it to deal with GCR or victor sync marks or anything. It's been on my to-do list for rather a long time. :D

The drive won't have read gibberish, I'm quite confident of that.

Re: Victor 9000 Disks

:D - I don't think I explained what was bubbling through my brain properly. I was thinking more about whether there's enough information in the RAW format to "spin the track around" and adjust where the start/end are. Obviously though, now I think about it properly, there are 5 complete samples in a...

Re: Victor 9000 Disks

:D - these were my dumps. That does confirm my understanding of how it works though. The issue at the moment is decoding them and aligning the start/end of the track to somewhere where you're not going to end up with the splice in the middle of the data. Thinking about that, do the reads go index-in...
