Re: Question about a copy protection, Contra Copy

Can we run a floppy emulator and get it to write to track1s1 in a virtual image, just to see how the tracks are laid out?
Cheers.

Re: Question about a copy protection, Contra Copy

Maybe your floppy drive is out of alignment.
I could test it on my system with a couple of other floppy copiers I have here.
David Dunfield's image disk tools to name one of them.
Cheers.

Question about a copy protection, Contra Copy

Hi there. I can remember, about 15 years ago, there was a product that you could download that would copy protect floppies. There was even a demonstration program you could run to write out to a 3.5 inch disk, and when you ran it, it would detect if you were using an original disk. It was remarkably...

Re: G64 demo "Bounty Bob Strikes Back" problems.

Both the 15x1 drive, and the drive being used to write the g64 out with your KF board, must be near perfectly aligned. Both my 1541 and 1571 drives do not encounter any issues loading and running the game. I think the protection scheme is a little more tolerant than you might think. I was quite surp...

Re: Looking for info about copy protection used in Australia

Ah, George was rather thorough wasn't he? He must have had intricate knowledge of the 15x1s inner workings Most of track 38 is riddled with random garbage in an effort to stymie copiers and nibblers, with the needed data written onto the end of the track. No wonder KF couldn't make sense of it. His ...

Re: Looking for info about copy protection used in Australia

Just found a version of Alleykat which uses this protection.
Unfortunately my KF drive is on the blink so I can't dump it until I get it fixed.
Cheers

Re: Looking for info about copy protection used in Australia

Hi IFW.
you said earlier on that you don't have any good dumps of paradroid. There's a copy that ZRX and I patched that has the boot code on track 36 fully intact.
It's a .g64, would you like me to send it to you?

Re: Looking for info about copy protection used in Australia

I must add that this scheme is a little dodgy. When repeatedly loaded (on real hardware at least,) the protection sometimes damages the data on the higher tracks, a little bit at a time, So eventually, after a x number of uses, these tracks will become completely unreadable, and the protection won't...

Re: Hawkeye c64 strangeness

G'day Hawkeye has no protection, but armalyte does, and so does retrograde I seem to recall hearing somewhere that armalyte was released after hawkeye, September 1988, and Retrograde came out some time in 1989. So for whatever reason, they decided to put protection on some of their 1980s releases, b...

Hawkeye c64 strangeness

Hi there. I'm trying to get a definitive answer on weather hawkeye is protected. Does anybody know what exactly the protection is looking for when it checks track 35 of the boot side? I've tried about 4 copies of the game, some have data duplication protection system data on tracks 36 through 41, ot...
