Re: can Kryoflux opensource DTC (windows and linux)

Opensourcing is highly unlikely due to the commercial nature of the product.

There's also a lot of work being done behing the scenes with the next "DTC" to make it a much more versatile utility in the future. But patience is needed. :)

Re: RAW file reader / Maybe converter to ADF?

The problem of saving the read with least errors is annoying in case of attempting recovery. I guess things work like they do because KF/DTC was initially meant for preservation of factory-state originals in most pristine condition, and disks with errors are only useful in stitching together good du...

Re: Help Analyzing Kryoflux Stream

Yup, "Stoned" was what I found from wikipedia matching the infected sector. I started looking for the relocated boot sector by searching the hex values $55AA which often is found at the last two bytes of the sector. There were couple of matches that looked like a valid sector. Your mention of PCjr c...

Re: Help Analyzing Kryoflux Stream

The first sector gave some clues about the virus. After finding some information about it and how it works, I used a hexeditor to locate and copy back the sectors the virus had relocated to another sectors on the disk. Very basic tools, but you have to understand a bit how disks work and what you ne...

Re: Help Analyzing Kryoflux Stream

Inner tracks are in a bad shape, enought to damage 7 tracks on the top side of the disk.

The virus has moved the MBR, FATs and directory, and after restoring them in place the contents could be extracted.

Re: Old CNC system floppy copying

I've seen an old manufacturer preformatted floppy from some teletype machine where the disk had a hidden track containing a serial number without which the machine doesn't accept the disk. Lately I've also been looking into an old oscilloscope for a friend where a manufacturer preformatted disk is r...

Re: Control Command rejected by the device. CM: maxtrack=0

A while ago I saw a case where the same happened with a Macbook setup running Win 10. The setup had previously worked, then it didn't work, and later started working again. The cause remained a mystery...

Re: Old CNC system floppy copying

KryoFlux doesn't care about the format which is used. As long as the disk are originally written in certain way (tracks are aligned to the index signal), they can be blindly read and written back to fresh disks, given that the disks are still in ok condition.

Re: Help dumping Novell Netware 2.15 Gendata floppy

Interesting. Never heard of anyone washing the floppies like that. :)

Lately I've been using a microfiber cloth with water/isopropyl mix to scrub both sides while rotating the disk. Tho I have a 3D-printed frame and a center knob aiding in holding and rotating the disk.
