Re: Dumping 5.25" 180Kb disks with a 5.25" DSHD drive ?

It's what is on the disk. Naturally, the two dumps are identical. I'm not sure that I understand your comment - I'm no expert here - I'm just asking questions until I understand. Regarding the two dumps (using DSDD and DSHD drives) that I uploaded - the same track have different sizes in the two du...

Re: Dumping 5.25" 180Kb disks with a 5.25" DSHD drive ?

One thing more - I posted two dumps of the same disk

first dump is made with a YEData DSHD 360 RPM drive
second dump is made with a Teac DSDD 300 RPM drive

Are your conclusions based on both dumps ?

IFW wrote: This is certainly not a simple 180K disk: side 0 alone is 8*512+39*5*1024 bytes, additionally side 1 is 40*9*512 bytes.
Ok thanks - that could not be explained by me attempting to dump a 180K disk using a DSHD drive ?

I'll try to get access to the disks again - and update this thread - thx

Re: Dumping 5.25" 180Kb disks with a 5.25" DSHD drive ?

It has been a while ago I uploaded the requested floppy images.
It would be nice if someone would take a look at them and put an answer to the original question.
Thanks in advance.

Re: version `GLIBC_2.14' not found

I hadn't thought of cross-compiling, but I don't think you can compile a 64-bit app under 32-bit Debian Me too - I've only compiled for 32bit on a 64bit platform - never tried the other way around. Theoretically it should be possible - but I have a feeling that the other way around is exercised by ...

Re: version `GLIBC_2.14' not found

I'm confused - first you say 64-bit platforms are used by geeks who use it just because it's new and interesting, but then you say you don't want me to use library versions that are new and interesting also??? I think what you really mean is that you want the newest stuff that your ancient distro s...

Re: version `GLIBC_2.14' not found

So, the assumption that 64-bit Linux users are power/performance users is wrong, and thus it's wrong to assume that there's some bleeding edge to this. That was not what I wrote (well - english is not my native language) - by the term "poweruser" I meant a user that is technocally orientated (one c...

Re: version `GLIBC_2.14' not found

Debian's pretty conservative, even Sid isn't updated all that frequently. The 32-bit builds are done on Debian Squeeze (stable) so you shouldn't have to worry about new library versions there. I figure people running a 64-bit OS are doing so for performance reasons, so the 64-bit builds are done on...

Re: version `GLIBC_2.14' not found

Well, the `GLIBC_2.14' not found' message disappeared (as reported by 'ldd'). However, I can't get it to execute on Debian SID (64-bit). Output from ldd looks fine, but execve refuses to run it - it exits immediately with 'exec: No such file or directory' (as reported by strace. ENOENT, in any case...

Re: Dumping 5.25" 180Kb disks with a 5.25" DSHD drive ?

Just do a blind stream dump of the first 3 tracks of both sides, post it, then I can tell the correct parameters :) Sorry for the delay - I now managed to get access to the disks again. Attached are two tar.gz archives each containing KF stream dumps of tracks 0-4 first dump is made with a YEData D...
