Re: Test image for an 8" drive?

Since nobody knows how the floppies have been stored over the decades, there could be small residues of mold on the surface, which are worn off a little more with each read-write process. It happens more often that floppies give very bad results on the first attempt and then show fewer errors on ea...

Re: Test image for an 8" drive?

Glad that worked for you. I was going to suggest reconstituting an image with HxC. I usually export to imagedisk format and re-import, but in this case Imagedisk format won't work because HxC always assumes IMD files are made at 300RPM so the resulting image is only suitable for 300RPM drives, not ...

Re: Test image for an 8" drive?

So now I've taken my original stream for disk1, extracted an image from it and then used HxC to make a fresh KF Stream file set from the raw image file. Then I wrote that fresh set of stream files to the original disk and read it back. I extracted an image from the resulting files. There are still a...

Re: Test image for an 8" drive?

The very first sector has "APOLLO" in it, not sure what logical format/file system is that... could be e.g. a backup archive too, some of those did something similar to ID their own disks quickly. Could be this machine: https://www.computerhistory.org/collections/catalog/102678356 https:/...

Re: Test image for an 8" drive?

Disk 10 has 26 128 byte sectors FM (single density) tracks 0-76 on head 0, then 8 1024 byte sectors MFM (double density) tracks 0-76 on head 1. I would assume this disk was re-formatted on a single sided system, and the contents of head 1 are just leftover. Thanks for the tip. :-) I tried that, and...

Please don't just pour full logs into threads, it makes them unreadable. Please use the CODE formatting, it's way easier to read. Thanks! I already fixed it for you.
Noted, and thanks for the tip. :-)

Re: Test image for an 8" drive?

You mixed up 512/1024 byte sector size in your last post (parameter -z2 vs -z3). The new image of disk 1 contains 8 sectors per track with 1024 byte each! Thats DSHD not DSDD.... So what you wrote back, was a HD image! Maybe you picked a wrong file? I guess your Mitsubishi M2896 is not capable of r...

Re: Test image for an 8" drive?

Hi. I'm having a weird problem with a disk... I overwrote the disk referenced earlier in this thread, disk1, with an image I had made with the HxCFloppyEmulator. It was a DSDD image, 512 bytes/sector, and FAT12. I copied a couple of files into it--a PDF and a hash check list for the file to verify i...

Re: Test image for an 8" drive?

This disk cannot be decoded just by specific parameters, I changed variables live until they worked running the code in a debugger... :) -m1 -frx/* -i -fdec -v360 -z3 -oe76 -i3 -l8 ...but this will just give you warnings about sector sizes in headers not matching the desired size. "rx" fo...

Re: Test image for an 8" drive?

That is an oddity. It wasn't my work, but it is something I would have done. Whatever goofball had that disk before me is at least as inept as myself. ;-) I'm improving my skills with what I've picked up in this thread, so thanks again. Disk 9 claims to be space quest II for MSDOS 3.3 with a FAT12 f...
