Re: Can you help me with this floppy?

So I copied from offset 1600 (x640) for a length of 200 (xC8) and pasted at offset 0 through 200 (xC8) basically overwriting the first 200 bytes and still unable to read the resulting patched .IMA. Did I understood wrongly? Thanks!

Can you help me with this floppy?

I have a 360K MFM (I believe) 5.25" floppy that I'm unable to read it's content. It's from the family hoard of the 80's (It's a blank disk that was used to save files) and I don't know what's on it. When I create an IMA from the RAWs my anti-virus find an early virus . Maybe it's the reason I'm...

Re: How to combine 2 raw dumps from the same disk to patch errors?

Thanks everyone for all that information! I'm still fairly new to all this and find this "retro" tech fascinating. I saw white mold on at least 2 disks but I cleaned them all before using them. I just inspected that floppy. I see nothing noticeable on track 1 (looking through the "win...

Re: How to combine 2 raw dumps from the same disk to patch errors?

Oh yeah, when both dumps converted to IMG everything is fine (the bad read is maybe used in a unused sector?). I was wondering when I compare RAW files for good sectors almost everything is different (for the corresponding sector in both dumps).

Re: How to combine 2 raw dumps from the same disk to patch errors?

Here is an example. The same disk imaged on a Teac FD-55GFR (1.2 MB drive) and on a Teac FD-55BR (360 K drive). On the GFR dump the track 72.1 is "bad" while on the BR everything is OK. This would correspond to the 36.1 track on the BR dump, but what I don't understand is that all other (g...

Re: Should I keep my .raw files after I get a good image?

Thanks for the insight. I was wondering if the GUI is giving visual input when something interesting is on the disk (like a copy protection). I think a yellow N on the 6/12th (depending of 40/80 tracks drive) track of a Sierra disk means some kind of copy protection.

Re: How to combine 2 raw dumps from the same disk to patch errors?

I know we can mix and match good raw track files from a dump into another, but what I don't understand is that how 2 different "good" track read on 2 different drives yield very different files (binary wise)?

Should I keep my .raw files after I get a good image?

When I image a floppy I always do a stream preservation first and then output to the correct format. I know .raw files contains "hidden" information maybe hidden for copy protection but if the game/software does not use protection, what's the point in keeping the raw files? What do you do ...

How to combine 2 raw dumps from the same disk to patch errors?

I have two 5.25" drives one 1.2 MB and one 360 KB drive. For the same 360 KB floppy on the 1.2 MB I get a bad sector but on the 360 KB drive all is OK.

Why sometime some drive read OK and some not? Also is there a way to combine the OK .raw sector from the 360 KB drive in the 1.2 MB .raw files?
