Re: Imaging hard sector floppies

We've been able to pull files out of the image using a definition based on the physical geometry you describe above: diskdef vista seclen 512 tracks 40 sectrk 10 secbase 0 blocksize 1024 maxdir 64 skew 1 boottrk 1 os 2.2 end but the first 0C00H bytes of the image need to be chopped off the image cre...

Re: Imaging hard sector floppies

Yes it's fascinating and hopefully one day I might find someone who can tell me how this was done so neatly. I only know of two such systems still in existence. Note that the product label for disk 047 (obscured by the handwritten label) says it is double-sided so this appears to be a commercially m...

Re: Imaging hard sector floppies

Sorry for the delay. I have put the scans on imgur once and it said they were too big so I resized them all to 800px wide but now I am getting this error if I try to put images tags around more than one: It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image. Please verify that the URL you ent...

Re: Imaging hard sector floppies

OK thanks. I will try that. Good progress has been made on decoding the sector format and checksum algorithm just from the raw .raw files. That work has handed on to a CP/M guru to figure out the CP/M directory information next. I will need to flip the discs over and redump the other side as head 0 ...

Re: Imaging hard sector floppies

OK thanks. Your answer doesn't completely make sense to me yet but that is only because I am a beginner and still coming to grips with the internal architecture of your solution. Let's come back to that later. Looking in one of the .raw files I see hc=10 so it has been recognised as having 10 hard s...

Re: Imaging hard sector floppies

I gained access to the equipment again today. The error on the MF501 was: The stream device reported missing index - no disk in drive This was while the disk was spinning away merrily so obviously erroneous  I tried a Mitsubishi M4853 with more success. Perhaps being an older drive it is more a...
