Re: Transportation of 5.25" floppies (ATARI)

You should have care with humidity changes, if you use an case, don't open it immediately after arriving, wait a little, this way you avoid moisture condensation. Take the usual care with magnets, and so on. The most important thing is that if you put it in the floppy drive and hear scratching noise...

Re: De-dust a drive: Unscrewing problems

Post some pics and the model of the unit, sounds like you stripped the screw, if the screw is not recessed in a hole, the easiest method would be to grip it with some strong pliers and turn it, crushing the head in the process, if not you have a lot of videos on youtube on unscrewing stripped screws...

Re: Chinon FR-506 - flippy?

Nevertheless, there are people which modified a Chinon moving the track 0 sensor back (you only have to loose a screw and slide it back) and using -b-8 to assign logical -8 to the 0 track. I tried this, but the problem is that the electronics in the drive count the number of tracks and you can't rea...

Re: Chinon FR-506 - flippy?

Yes, thinking it over, I think you are right, but then the drive can be made to go to -8 and read all side 1 without a mod, only pushing it past track 0. It would explain some of my problems at least.

Re: Newbie: Where to start to read with which I have to start with?

I personally wouldnt be so careful if the drive isn't damaged in a obvious way, but you could check for shorts between 12v and 5v, if 12v are sent in the data lines that would try the kryoflux. Measuring resistance between the power connector pins would be enough, but I don't think this a very proba...

Re: Newbie: Where to start to read with which I have to start with?

5,25" drives (and 3") almost universally used 12v and 5v, it is not exotic at all. 8" drives used 24v but I don't think these are relevant to your needs. Also, 5,25" drives had PCB connectors (with one gap in the middle) by default, the bog-standard PC floppy cable had connectors for both these and ...

Re: Chinon FR-506 - flippy?

Hi: I don't think so, for the Chinon FZ-506 you can find good schematics and info on the Commodore PC-40 III service manuals at: http://www.retroisle.com/commodore/pcs/OriginalDocs/PC40-III_Service_Manual_314134-01_(1989_Mar).pdf If you look at Appendix B, page 29, you can see the value of the senso...

Re: Chinon FR-506 - flippy?

Hi: I did the Panasonic transistor mod with a Chinon FZ-506, which I am no sure works the same as yours, it works and goes to -8 without having to dremel anything, BUT: * The assembly didn't cross the track 0 limit by itself, I had to push it manually backwards to the end stop, once there it locked ...

Is there a Spectrum +3 emulator with RAW support?

Hi: I routinely use emulators to test dumps, VICE for C64, Sugarbox for CPC and WinUAE for Amiga. They work very well. Supposedly, the Spectaculator emulator for Spectrum supports CT RAW, but I didn't found a way to load those, converting the files to "IPF" with several tools (I know these are very ...
