Re: Weird block sizes

I haven't confirmed yet if any of those disks were actually written on the Cyber and haven't been overwritten by something else. I'll go through them and check.

Re: Weird block sizes

Ok, thanks. Actually, the python script by Eric Smith that handled M2FM might be able to do this with some modifications. I think it had support for FM and MFM too. I'll look into it later, perhaps.

Weird block sizes

I seem to have been given a few CDC Cyber floppies, and had some unexpected trouble reading them properly, until I found this (from http://bitsavers.trailing-edge.com/pdf/cdc/1700/cyber_18/96767850A_Cyber_18_System_Summary_Feb77.pdf ): The flexible disk drive (figure 7-9) is a random-access device u...

Re: Kryoflux, Shugart and M2FM

Actually, I think there's no need. I had missed that the bit rate was supposed to be 500kbps, and I was trying the tool with bit rates around 250-360. I'm currently testing every integer between 200 and 601, and from 494 to 499, where it's currently at, I'm getting consistent, readable data. I'm get...

Re: Kryoflux, Shugart and M2FM

Sure! Can I send it to you rather than posting it here?

Best regards,

Hans

Re: Kryoflux, Shugart and M2FM

Followup: I just managed to read a Cromemco FM disk using this floppy drive, by setting the RPM to 330 and sector size to 128. So at least something works!

Kryoflux, Shugart and M2FM

I posted a question a while ago about my Shugart 850 being built for 60Hz spindle AC, while I can only provide 50Hz. I'm reading disks with the drive now, using a DBit FDADAP + FDDC and a Kryoflux, but I've yet to extract anything that looks like data. Part of the problem is that most of my floppies...

Re: Shugart 850, 230V/60Hz

I can't see any reversible pulley on this one, but I guess it might be possible to 3d print one if necessary. For now, I'll leave it as is.

Re: Shugart 850, 230V/60Hz

Great, thanks! I just tested the spindle motor and at least that seems to work. Promising.

Shugart 850, 230V/60Hz

I have owned a Shugart 850 drive for many years now, but now that I have a KryoFlux I want to try to read my old floppies, rather than just keeping the drive around as a curiosity. I have found documentation, read up on the pinouts, and ordered the appropriate connectors, and now I finally got aroun...
