Re: Can you *write* side 1 of a flippy disk?

Quite stranded here as well. Any news of implementing write support for both sides? I know, kryoflux is for preservation, but writing back the second side would be really a useful feature. I got around this by making a second index hole in the blank floppy with a ticket punch: http://files.breadbin...

DTC Linux build vs. Windows build?

I notice that DTC has been updated to v3.00 (now supports hard sectored disks!) while the Linux build remains v2.6 circa Jan 2015. I'm haven't hit any major problems with the Linux build, never had to dump a hard-sectored disk. Just wondering if there's any other features / fixes I could be missing ...

Re: G64 demo "Bounty Bob Strikes Back" problems.

It's part of the copy-protection... You have to write protect the disk after writing it, otherwise the loader fails with checksum errors. Usually people who copy a disk don't write protect the copy  I did write protect it. I've tried it a couple more times in my 1541-II and it varies how far i...

Re: G64 demo "Bounty Bob Strikes Back" problems.

I ran this by sncbook2k on the Lemon64 forum (I believe he does post here from time to time), he says: You have to have a perfectly aligned 1541 to load it from a copy. It always starts with banging the head from the copy. This in my opinion has sopmething to do with writing with a 1.2m head vs a 36...

Can you *write* side 1 of a flippy disk?

Quick question, is it possible to write both sides (or just side 1) of a disk in flippy mode? I can read either or both sides in flippy mode no problem, but I can't seem to get DTC to attempt to write side 1. Clearly this poses a challenge, since the head would need to be stepped to track -8 and the...

G64 demo "Bounty Bob Strikes Back" problems.

Hi all, Apologies for being yet another person to raise an issue while trying to produce a working floppy from g64_demo/BBSB/bbsb.g64 , but I think this is an odd one as the disk writes and verifies fine. It just doesn't load on a real C64 / 1541 and I've read posts from other users who have been ab...

Re: Copying a 1.44M MFM disk, only 720k saved

Are the errors all against the same side of the disk? If so, that would be consistent with one of the heads being dirty / out of action. If only half of the sectors can be identified, then I guess a 720 KB image is all you'll get.

Write back MFM sector image?

Hi, Is there an elegant way to write back an MFM sector image / type 4 i.e. from a standard 1.44 MB PC formatted disk using DTC? I gather there are tools to convert unsupported formats to stream files, which KryoFlux can write back, but is that the only way? Would it make more sense to dump the sour...

Quick question about 5.25" PC drives.

While reading about the flippy mod on the KryoFlux FAQ , I learned about the 8-cylinder offset on side 1. This made me wonder, is this the reason why DS/HD disks only format to 1.2 MB rather than 1.4 MB (or 1.44 MB like a 3.5" disk)? If a DS/DD disk stores 720 KB (360 KB on each side), this is not q...
