Re: Setup for MFM 5 1/4" DD 360K

This is in deed a very poor signal quality! Is the terminator plugged in? (Look at page 20/21 of the manual for function and position on the PCB.) Was it the only drive in the original machine you tested it with or was there a second drive connected? Otherwise I could only think of a EMC problem at...

Re: Setup for MFM 5 1/4" DD 360K

Uhhps, you are right, the slow firmware is default for "quite a while" now: https://forum.kryoflux.com/viewtopic.php?p=12800&hilit=slow+firmware#p12800 Sorry, but I missed that! For submitting RAW-files you have to upload them somewhere on the web, and post a link to that location her...

Re: Setup for MFM 5 1/4" DD 360K

Last not least this drives are very slow in head movement. So some user recommend the "slow" firmware... https://forum.kryoflux.com/viewtopic.php?p=156#p156 David, It does not appear that the slow firmware is included with the distribution package anymore although the manual still makes m...

Re: Setup for MFM 5 1/4" DD 360K

If you get a "Drive speed problem detected" please check for the index sensor. DTC calculates the rpm from the time between the index pulses. The index sensor of the Qume is opto electronic, so a cleaning may help. On the other hand it could be that the sensor gets confused if you place t...

Re: Setup for MFM 5 1/4" DD 360K

Your parameter line doesn't work that way! Just to quote the manual: IMPORTANT NOTE on command line parameters order: The following settings are “image local” and therefore must appear before the image type and would affect only the first image type specified after the parameter. Their values autom...

Re: Setup for MFM 5 1/4" DD 360K

So: dtc -ftest.img -i4 -i0 -v300 -oe39 -e41 Should give me a preservation stream and a IMG file, correct? I didn't have much luck with this last time I tried, same results. I could share the stream if it helps determine what is going on. Any idea why the output image is 720k instead of 360k? I'm sur...

Re: Setup for MFM 5 1/4" DD 360K

Thanks David so.. I cleaned the heads, fortunately I still have an old disk cleaning kit and had some 90% isopropyl around. Still no luck. Disks are clean and free of any signs of any surface issues. As noted above, all the disks I have tried so far also read just fine with this same exact drive put...

Re: Setup for MFM 5 1/4" DD 360K

David, thanks for the pointer! So I guess that setting is more of a setting of whether or not it should skip over every other track (e.g. DD disk in a HD drive). I'm still having some difficulty getting a good image. The only non-default setting I'm doing now is to set the RPM to 300 and I've also t...

Re: Setup for MFM 5 1/4" DD 360K

Not exactly, that was when I was imaging everything using a high density drive years back. Now I am trying to do similar with my only working double density drive. The track is set to 41 tracks maximum for this particular drive (same value I get after calibration). I have been using the GUI for test...
