Wipe only

Is there any use-case for this? (keeping in mind that the disk may not really be erased due to head footprint...!) Well, I was just asking because I stumbled over something saying "use of really empty / unformatted disks is strongly recommended". This was quite some time ago and may be even irrelev...

Wipe only

Every CRT-television or monitor .... I know about those and how to use them. I was just thinking if it can be done as well by maybe activating write gate for one revolution on all tracks while simply sending no data. IFW already explained how this could be achieved. The problem is, that I do not ha...

There's a difference between preservation and duplication.......
I am sorry, but I guess a full reply would be off topic.Be sure that I do not want to duplicate stuff in a row. But what I want is to recreate my original when it is dead one day. I know that things are intricate,

Recreated disk does not match source

Could you please post the original track data read, written and re-read as stream files? Hi, though I already know by know that the propable cause of the problem is that DTC cannot write back stream files created from non-index-aligned disks I will attach the two stream files, a.raw being the strea...

Recreated disk does not match source

Hi, That is probably your problem right there. Atari disks are notorious as being one of the few FM/MFM formats that are not index aligned. The Kryoflux does not currently support writing non-index aligned images Well, here comes the problem. Almost all original disks carry some kind of copy protect...

Recreated disk does not match source

Today I do not have the time to wite an extensive answer. I hope that I will find the necessary time tomorrow morning. Just some quick replies: I guess that the original disk was produced on an Atari 1050 disk drive. The drive used to read and write the stream files has a constant RPM that varies at...

> you could create e.g. an IPF or G64ext image How could I create that manually? It is quite difficult to get a disk that is really unformatted and read this one using DTC to get image data with unformatted tracks ... > you will want to degauss it, e.g. with a very strong magnet. The problem with ma...

Recreated disk does not match source

Hi, I partly agree to what you say. But if I put a 288 RPM disk in a 300 RPM drive and read it, the bits come out slightly faster and with a slightly smaller bit width. This is what the raw stream files should contain, as far as I understand. Now if I write the stream files back to disk using the ve...

Will KryoFlux help me? Will I be able to use this device?

Hi, KryoFlux will allow you to read plain binary data and since it usually reads every track or cylinder at least five times this may help to recover data. This must work for the entire disk because ususally a file is scattered over the disk due to fragmentation. But unless something special happene...
