Re: Best way to backup Amiga floppies

So can I write Amiga disks using HD media or should I use DSDD disks on the 1.44 drive?

Re: A few questions, if you don't mind

My 5.25 drive will write DSDD disks but then a regular 360k drive will not read them properly; 360k drives have a larger head which can't read the narrow written track written by a HD drive.

Re: A few questions, if you don't mind

So I should use a 1.2 to read all 5.25?

And, use 1.44 to read all 3.5?

But, use 360k drives to write back on 360k media (IBM/C64C)

And, use 720k drives to write back on 720k/880k media (IBM/Amiga)?

On 5.25 games how can I tell if the company used DSDD or DSHD disks?

Re: Best way to backup Amiga floppies

I thought you had to use a 720k drive to write the tracks to DSDD diskette, otherwise only another HD could read the tracks.

Re: Best way to backup Amiga floppies

Thank you for the good explanation. In the meantime I've dumped several protected Amiga NDOS disks with different floppy drives and only recently I started to write stream files back to disk to see whether they'd run on a real Amiga - and they did. :) I used the following command: dtc -fGemX/track ...

Re: A few questions, if you don't mind

Don't mix firmwares, you are calling for trouble. Windows version is always a little ahead because of development on this platform. It's also a bad idea to mix coercivity - DD, SD and HD don't mix well. Although the drive might adjust itself (3.5" only, 5.25" can't detect media density) the pre-com...

What disks with what drives?

I am using a 1.2mb 5.25 HD drive to read IBM games and c64 games and a 1.44mb HD drive to read IBM and Amiga games. Can I also use these drives to write the Kryoflux files back to new disks? Or will I need 360k drives for the c64 games and 720k drives for the Amiga games? I read somewhere a long tim...
