Source for SPS Decoder Library 5.2?

Post by ConiKost »

Hi!
I am the maintainer for kryoflux-dtc in Gentoo Linux. As Gentoo Linux is source based, we compile everything.
Currently, we provide DTC 3.0 and the needed dependency SPS 5.1.

Since DTC3.5 uses SPS 5.2, could you please provide the updated source code?

Thank you!

Hi,

It will be released soon, probably in a week or two as this work has other dependencies on our side.

Thanks.

Just asking my self, why do you need to wait for that? I mean, the current Gentoo package simply extracts the binaries, why can't this be used for the lib, so that you can provide the updated dtc now?

This is not correct. While it extracts the binaries for dtc, it has an dependency dev-libs/spsdeclib, as the dtc binaries are linked against those lib.

Yes, correct. But my proposal is to use the already compiled library from the KryoFlux archive for dev-libs/spsdeclib (same thing as already done for the dtc binary) I think you won’t gain or lose anything by using the source code for the library.

You are aware, that Gentoo is a source based distribution? So binary packages are last resort, if there is really no source available.

You are aware that DTC is binary only (?) and that as an interim solution you could use the binary for the library so to not keep your users waiting. But this is of course your choice.

It’s done when it’s done; an interim solution has been proposed above.
